Worship

Worship at Augustine

Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

Those who gather to worship on Sunday mornings find themselves among supportive, enquiring congregants who have an interest in exploring the ways scripture can be applied to our everyday life. Worship at Augustine intends to be:

  • based on scripture,
  • Affirming, and
  • inclusive.

Saint Augustine

Worship at Augustine follows a traditional format with the Sacrament of Communion formally celebrated the first Sunday of each month. Both clergy and choir are robed on these Sundays. Other Sundays, clergy and choir dress informally.

While Augustinians seek personal spiritual growth and knowledge of the United Church and Christianity, they also concern themselves with a broader social awareness including appreciation of other faiths in our own community and events in both local and global communities.

A Sunday at Augustine includes:

  • being welcomed at the door;
  • passing of the peace;
  • a time to address and value children;
  • prayers of the people offered by open microphone;
  • community announcements;
  • scripture-based sermon;
  • a choir of 20-plus voices accompanied by organ and piano, and
  • a time for coffee and conversation in the Guild Hall after worship.

It may also include:

  • artful approaches to meditations;
  • non-traditional music with solo vocals, flute, drum, or other instruments;
  • an awareness of the spiritual significance of  ritual, symbolism, and art;
  • adaptation to unexpected social and political events that affect us, and
  • interfaith engagement.

John

Occasionally on Sunday evenings, Augustine offers additional times of worship including meditative services with music, interfaith services, anointing, and Taizé chant.

At all times, worship at Augustine United Church seeks to provide an uplifting, motivating, informed time together, which aims to meet the needs of a richly diverse congregation struggling to find positive, constructive, and charitable ways to live out our faith in our various homes and communities.

Worship time is 10:30 a.m. every Sunday, and communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.  All are welcome.
