angelsThere are a variety of ways to get involved in the life and ministry of Augustine United Church. Augustine uses a team-based leadership model that promotes shared decision making, efficiency, reduction in meetings, and flexibility. Please contact us if you would like to join a team.

The Church Council

The Church Council consists of the minister and seven members in full standing elected by the congregation at the annual meeting. The Council oversees the organization and operation of the church by creating, monitoring and establishing parameters for the congregational teams. It also ensures good communication, oversees the conduct of members and adherents, and organizes the annual congregational meeting.

Trustees are members in full standing elected at a congregational meeting. They hold property in trust for the use and benefit of the congregation as part of The United Church of Canada.

Presbytery Representatives (Linda – Ann Sturgeon and Nancy Renwick)

The Presbytery Representatives represent Augustine United Church at meetings of Winnipeg Presbytery, an administrative grouping of local United Churches. 

Teams:

The Congregational Life Team (Garth Bradley)

The Congregational Life Team is responsible for building community within the church. A team of volunteers provides refreshments for after-church coffee, and organizes regular social events such as a Mardi Gras party, creating a welcoming space for everyone.

The Worship Team (Anthony Steffes)

The Worship Team works with the congregation to provide meaningful worship services. They develop policies for weddings, baptisms, and funerals, and oversee the membership list.

The Pastoral Care Team (Theresa Chammartin)

The Pastoral Care Team works with the minister to provide crisis care, visit people in their homes, support newcomers, and provide compassionate pastoral support and referrals as needed.

The Social Justice Team (Amanda Wolfe)

The Social Justice Team focuses on raising awareness of human rights and environmental issues, promoting congregational activities that reach out to people in the world around us, and building community partnerships. You may see members of this team at the after-church Action Table, writing letters and circulating petitions.

The Faith Development Team (Kristin Sheffield)

The Faith Development Team facilitates opportunities for faith development and study for all ages. They provide leadership for the Sunday School and small group ministry.

The Finance Team (David Viggars)

The Finance Team provides financial direction for the congregation. They prepare and recommend an annual budget to support the mission and ministry of the church, and develop and support plans to ensure that the financial needs of the church are met.

The Communication Team (Charlie McDougall)

The Communication Group ensures effective communication between church members, the public, and the media. They are responsible for the website, brochures, media statements, and the AugustZine newsletter.

OTHER GROUPS

Ministry and Personnel Committee (Sue Weldon)

This committee is mandated under by-law of The United Church of Canada. The committee meets on a regular basis to provide support to and oversight of ministry personnel and staff of the church.
